Servant Leadership

I believe strongly in servant leadership — in the type of leadership that allows me to answer a call found deep within my spirit to be there for other people. Whether it’s informational, motivational, or inspirational, servant leaders like me value listening skills, empathy, and inclusion.

Servant leaders also are very good at reading the room — at easily recognizing the dynamics among the individuals in a group and assessing how those dynamics are best encouraged and managed.

Servant leaders are committed to stewardship; we deeply value accountability for all resources, including people, time, energy, and finances, as well as those resources related to the larger community and even planet.

My time at Sierra Vista UMC…

During my five years as a clergyperson at SVUMC, I demonstrated remarkable leadership within a 1,400-member church, overseeing effective communication and connections between the church and the local community, as well as facilitating connections within the broader church context. I also provided crucial support to the senior pastor and the church staff through relationship-building, networking, and relationship management and demonstrated exceptional writing skills by crafting public relations materials, social media copy, and sermons that engaged and connected with the congregation.

Other S-A-R scenarios while at SVUMC include the following:

  • Played vital role as part of the capital campaign team, successfully raising $2M for debt management, ensuring the church's financial stability and growth.

  • Managed departmental segments of the church's $1.9M budget, ensuring prudent financial stewardship.

  • Took charge of overseeing the SVUMC Food Ministry and other mission groups, fostering a strong sense of community outreach and service.

  • Organized, implemented, and led various classes, studies, and events, enhancing the spiritual and educational growth of the church community.

  • Engaged with the Sierra Vista community to address their pastoral needs, demonstrating a dedication to the community's overall welfare.

“The true price of leadership is the willingness to place the needs of others above your own. Great leaders truly care about those they are privileged to lead and understand that the true cost of the leadership privilege comes at the expense of self-interest.”

  • I've worked closely with Kelly Squyres, for over 17 years, as both the Sierra Vista UMC Children's Director and Associate Pastor and in her volunteer position as a Ramp Team Leader for the Texas Ramp Project. She is hard working, conscientious, smart, trustworthy, compassionate, a team player and most important a woman who trusts in God's plan for her life. She is the type of person who doesn't leave a job undone and finishes it to the best of her ability.
