My teaching experience

  • St. Leo University

From 2004 until 2008, I taught freshman composition online. During a time when online learning was a new and evolving experiment, St. Leo was at the forefront of doing remote education well.

  • Angelo State University

For seven years (8 years if you count my time as a graduate assistant), I taught freshman composition workshops and survey literature classes at Angelo State. I also served as an academic advisor.

  • Central High School

During my tenure at San Angelo ISD’s Central High School, I taught English and journalism classes; I also served as the yearbook sponsor.

How do I approach classroom management?

I believe that all management begins with relationship — relationships among students and the relationship between students and teacher. Without a sense of belonging — without trust, without connection, and without understanding — students can never hope to become comfortable enough to open their minds and hearts to the ideas, the people, and the wisdom that surround them.
